Electric vehicle grants - Scrappage Scheme

Boland Carlow EV Grant

Ireland has introduced a new ICE2EV scrappage scheme that provides up to €8,500 in combined State support when you trade in an older petrol or diesel vehicle for a brand-new, fully electric car. The new incentives and related updates feature the following requirements:

  • The Scrappage Payment: You can receive €5,000 for trading in an older vehicle, which stacks directly on top of the standard €3,500 SEAI purchase grant.
  • Eligible Old Car: Your trade-in vehicle must be a petrol or diesel car (including hybrids) registered in 2013 or older. It must be currently taxed and insured, and you must have owned it for at least 12 months prior to applying.
  • Eligible New Car: It must be a brand-new Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) do not qualify for the scrappage top-up.
  • Price Cap Adjustment: The maximum eligible vehicle list price to qualify for the standard EV grant is €50,000.
  • The Fund Limit: The new scheme operates as a €10 million pilot on a first-come, first-served basis. The fund is split 65% for rural dwellers and 35% for urban dwellers (based on Eircode), and it will close as soon as the funding is exhausted.
